Canning

Over the last couple of weeks I've been making jam a little at a time but yesterday I asked Phil to pick up a bushel of fresh corn if he drove past any roadside stands in Ohio.  We grilled corn in the husk on our propane grill after it was soaked in water for 15 minutes.  Quite yummy!  I didn't even put butter on mine.

I canned corn after dinner using my new pressure canner.  Today I made more.  Twelve medium ears of corn only made four pints.  I was happy with myself for going to the trouble to put up food for the winter.  I still have about two dozen ears of corn and think I may freeze them.  I can't wait until the veggies in my little garden are ready to harvest.

I ordered two dozen quart jars from Kmart.  They should arrive tomorrow.  It was cheaper to order online plus I used my Shop Your Way Rewards.  The jars cost me about $8 including shipping and tax.  Made me happy that I didn't have to drive to the store to pick them up.  My truck is a real gas hog.  On a good day it gets 14 miles per gallon.

Hubby's vacation is over and he goes back to work tomorrow.  I love having him here at home but he's not one to want to sit at home with me and watch me knit.  He likes to be busy running around and training dogs.

I enjoyed my birthday.  No celebration this year although I did get phone calls from my sons and from my parents who sang Happy Birthday to me as they were on their way to church this morning.  We were supposed to go to his mother's for cake and ice cream but he had an upset stomach and we stayed home.

My cousin had her baby two days ago.  A beautiful baby girl which she named Katelyn.  I was hoping she'd hold out until my birthday.  haha

Well, Happy Birthday! :)

I need to can green beans, but I put my foot down and refused to do them until an AC was put in the dining room window. So, I still haven't tried out the pressure canner. Good job getting some food put up for the winter!
