From Titus to Toller

Well, the couple from Maryland came to see our puppy and fell in love with him.  I'm happy to say he went home with them.  They called to say he only was sick once on the ride home and was such a good boy in the house.  Before they left they told me his new name was Toller.  I had no idea what that meant but they explained it was some type of duck dog.  I'll leave you with a few photos.

Sunny, sunny, sunny top

Last week I started on a new cotton top for Lilly.  I had purchased one skein of mint green cotton and rayon yarn back in February and, since I didn't have more, I contacted people who had some for sale on Ravelry.  I bought three more skeins from a lovely woman named Kim.  I started on the top using Carol J. Sulcoski's, "Sunny, sunny, sunny" pattern only to find out that I need more skeins in order to finish.  So that top was put on the backburner until I can find more of the yarn which is discontinued.

After my disappointment at not having the correct amount of yarn I decided to go to Kathy's Kreations in Ligonier to find a similar yarn in order to start on another top using the same pattern.  I found a beautiful aqua cotton yarn.  I made a few minor adjustments to the pattern.  I left out the p2 k2 ribbing pattern throughout and went with straight stitch except for the heart motif at the center of the bodice.  Here's where I am now:

The color above isn't true to life.  It has more of a touch of green.

We have someone driving in from Maryland tomorrow to take a look at Titus.  I don't know how anyone could see him and not be able to resist his face!  He is such a sweetie.  I'm hoping it's a love at first sight kind of thing!  Titus needs a really good home and I think this guy is it.  :)

Update on August 4:  I'm almost finished with the blue cotton top.  I made a few changes from the pattern.  It's coming along.

Canning

Over the last couple of weeks I've been making jam a little at a time but yesterday I asked Phil to pick up a bushel of fresh corn if he drove past any roadside stands in Ohio.  We grilled corn in the husk on our propane grill after it was soaked in water for 15 minutes.  Quite yummy!  I didn't even put butter on mine.

I canned corn after dinner using my new pressure canner.  Today I made more.  Twelve medium ears of corn only made four pints.  I was happy with myself for going to the trouble to put up food for the winter.  I still have about two dozen ears of corn and think I may freeze them.  I can't wait until the veggies in my little garden are ready to harvest.

I ordered two dozen quart jars from Kmart.  They should arrive tomorrow.  It was cheaper to order online plus I used my Shop Your Way Rewards.  The jars cost me about $8 including shipping and tax.  Made me happy that I didn't have to drive to the store to pick them up.  My truck is a real gas hog.  On a good day it gets 14 miles per gallon.

Hubby's vacation is over and he goes back to work tomorrow.  I love having him here at home but he's not one to want to sit at home with me and watch me knit.  He likes to be busy running around and training dogs.

I enjoyed my birthday.  No celebration this year although I did get phone calls from my sons and from my parents who sang Happy Birthday to me as they were on their way to church this morning.  We were supposed to go to his mother's for cake and ice cream but he had an upset stomach and we stayed home.

My cousin had her baby two days ago.  A beautiful baby girl which she named Katelyn.  I was hoping she'd hold out until my birthday.  haha

One Male Puppy Left

Fritz went to his new home yesterday.  That leaves one male puppy in our kennel.  As of today he weighs 18 lbs at nine weeks of age.  He's absolutely beautiful.

Ignore the wet t-shirt in the background.  Puppy had just gotten his bath.  If he does not get sold as a puppy we will train him and sell him as a started dog.  In the meantime we are calling him Titus.  AKC and NAVHDA registered litter.  Excellent pedigree.  Awesome hunters!

7/28/2013 Update:  Titus was renamed Toller and has a new family in Maryland.  I know they will be happy together!

Puppies Go Home

Adley, Dexter, Ziggy and Yukon all went to their new homes this weekend.  That still leaves one male puppy until Thursday when he goes home and then we will be left with one last male pup who no one has claimed yet.  Photos of him are below.  He is a real cutie and very sweet!
