An unpleasant Valentine's Day

Phil took half a day on Thursday so we could spend some time together.  We weren't sure if we wanted to go to the sports show in Monroeville or visit Cabelas.  I chose Cabelas so we could stop at Cracker Barrel to eat.

It was a very scary drive out due to the weather.  Heavy snowfall here in PA but by the time we got to WV there was barely any snow on the roads and the sun was actually shining.  We had an early dinner at C.B. and then over to Cabelas to shop.

On the way home I started to get an upset stomach.  I woke up Friday morning feeling like I had stepped right back on the chemo wagon.  Throwing up and lots of the big D and I don't mean divorce.  I was sweating and chilling at the same time.  Phil thinks it was a 24 hour bug and not because of what I ate although I'm not sure.I had absolutely no energy.  I couldn't concentrate to be on the computer.  I just slept most of the day.  I was finally able to eat something this morning.

I started a pair of legwarmers for Dixie.  I'm using Berocco's Remix yarn in the Dungarees colorway.  I did a k2 p2 rib for 1.5 inches and then k3 p1 for the remainder.  I'm going to make them 12 inches long and then go back to the ribbing for another 1.5 inches.  It's kind of a mindless task that I can work on without much concentration.

As I was knitting along I used my own leg to measure how long the legwarmers should be for Dixie.  I decided that nine inches was long enough and then added the ribbing to finish the first one.  I started right into the second after that.

Feeling much better today (Sunday).

Knitting Books

I ordered used knitting books off the Amazon website last week.  One arrived today.  Debbie Bliss "Essential Knits for Kids."  I couldn't help myself.  The little girl on the front cover of the book is so lovely!  The others which have not arrived are Brandy Fortune's "Just Like me Knits," and "Knitting:  A Novel," by Anne Bartlett.  It's not truly a knitting book but a book about two people who knit.  It was listed among the recommendations "just for me" via the Google Reader.  I got as far as the first 20 pages and Google Reader cut me off saying I'd have to buy the book.  So I did.  It's rather slow moving but I am hoping it gets better as it goes.

Good news.  The insurance company is processing our claim for damages to my truck this past week.  An adjuster will be out within the next week or two.  It would be wonderful if I could get a loaner vehicle while my truck is being repaired.  We'll see.  All I can say is we've had State Farm Insurance for over 30 years and they've never let us down.

I went to my DAR chapter's meeting today.  Afterward we had our C.A.R. meeting.  In all it was a good day.

The book by Anne Bartlett arrived in yesterday's mail (February 12) and I finished it last night.  It didn't get any better than the first 20 pages.  It was slow.  The characters were not at all likable and I did try to like them.  They felt forced together.  The whole scenario with Martha and her baggage of knitting imperfections was absurd even if it was supposed to be about her mental illness.  Sandra's character was one dimensional and never got past the first look at her.  What you saw was cold and ice as was she.  Not friendly.  Cliff, the man they found collapsed on the street, was just thrown in there from time to time.  His character never developed.  In all I felt it was a waste of my time.  Thankfully, I only paid 99 cents for the book!

No Motivation

I don't know what's with me.  I have absolutely no motivation to do anything.  I haven't finished the pink lace mitten that I started last month.  I have nothing else on the needles right now.  I do plan to knit myself a cape with Cascade 220 in a berry pink color but don't want to start until the mitten is finished.  The yarn color is actually darker than what it shows in the photo.

I woke up with a headache.  I managed to get a bath, wash my hair and put on makeup.  I was meeting someone at the kennel this morning.  He left his dog to be bred.  His female, Mossy, is out of Elsa and Gunner's first litter.  She's going to be bred to Rocco whose parents are Bella and Clou Vom Holtvogt.  This is the same breeding we are planning for Roxy (Mossy's sister).  Should make for great dogs!

Little Maximum Performance is getting along well and growing fast.  Lilly came over to visit on Saturday to play with him.

It's 24° here today which feels nice compared to last week and the week before.  It's not snowing.  The sun is shining so it's just beautiful out.  I always find myself thanking God for letting me enjoy such a beautiful day.

My baby

My baby turned 28 today.  So hard to believe.  Even though he's grown up I still think of the day he was born every year on his birthday.  Much like today, it was a cold, wintry day in Pittsburgh.  Some things never change.

So, happy birthday, dear son!  It's been an adventure.  Tears of happiness, tears of sadness, tears of desperation and times of thankfulness for all you've brought to my life.  I love you and wish you much happiness always.

Love, mom
